A rant on what 5D’s could have been after the DS arc

I love 5D’s with all my heart and soul. I love all the characters and the amazing world building and all the stories.  But a large part of that heart and soul basically aches and what this series could have been.

More ancient Peruvian mythology.  I was completely expecting to see mentions of past lives after the Dark Signer arc and was rather disappointed.  The Crimson Dragon apparently also have time travel capabilities: why wasn’t this EXPLOITED like crazy?  The Signers could have travelled back and had all kinds of adventures in the actual past.

More of Ylliaster; for an organization spanning thousands of years and secretly manipulating history behind the scenes, I really wish they weren’t reduced to just a couple of androids from the future.  I would have loved to see its roots in everything; I wanted the second half of 5D’s to be battling this huge insidious organization that has effectively infiltrated all the governing bodies.  We saw little peeks of it here and there like with the Momentum Express company (too bad it got erased from history).  Ylliaster was supposed to be linked with the Crimson Dragon; I wanted this connection to be further fleshed out and explored.  I wanted a huge faceless council and basically a threat that would take more than a card game to solve (alas, this is unlikely since this is Yu-Gi-Oh! after all).

I wanted to see much more character growth.  There was plenty of it up to the dark signer arc, but afterwards that damnable timeskip basically hand waved it away and kept everyone stuck in these character moulds for the rest of the series.  So, the Signers defeated the Earthbound gods.    The city is in chaos.  People have mysteriously disappeared and basically reappeared.  Mass chaos abounds and Rex Godwin, the man, they look to for explanations is nowhere to be found.  The media is in a frenzy and thousands of people saw this giant evil silhouette creep towards them.    No one has a clue what is going on, and all they have to go on are the testimonies of one officer, a model, an amnesiac reporter, two small children, a bunch of criminals including the feared Black Rose Witch, and the former King who was a Satellite anyway.  Like hell anyone would be listening to them.  This also sounds like the perfect set up for some evil shady bastard to take control of the city and the clueless masses.

A more realistic take on what would happen to Team 5D’s.  There is no way that after 17 or so years of discrimination and fear and hatred, the cities will be able to effortlessly integrate.  The canon even states that people with criminal markers lose the right to obtain a livelihood which should have made it extremely difficult for Crow and Yusei to make a life in the city.  How did they get around that?  I hate how Kiryu basically disappeared and I have trouble believing that Yusei, Jack, and Crow wouldn’t have gone after him immediately and made sure he wouldn’t turn out to be suicidal.  And Aki definitely got off too lightly.  Of course she was basically manipulated into working for Divine and was more than a little damaged.  But I doubt the citizens of Neo Domino would have seen it that way, what with the Fortune Cup audience screaming for her blood.  Without Divine and the Arcadia Movement (more on this later) providing some protection for her, she would have faced lynching.  Even with her father being a senator, it doesn’t explain how she could turn into a happy school girl AND have all her classmates not only accept her but love her.

I refuse to believe that the Arcadia Movement would completely collapse.  Divine survived being eaten by Misty’s earthbound god.  A man like him would have dozens upon dozens of fail safes and would have broken out immediately.  The man is a PSYCHIC.

Rua and Ruka.  I completely hate how they barely got any screen time/character development after DS.  They were amazing.  I would have loved further exploration of Ruka’s connection with the Spirit World.  They both probably should have been a lot more traumatized than they were.  Also, the question of what their parents were doing all this time should have really been answered at some point.  This could have been a potentially interesting story arc.  They could have been literally anyone from being archaeologists or even members of an evil organization.

Momentum is somehow connected to the underworld!! There’s a GOD of the underworld that they just beat back. That is INTERESTING.  Why didn’t they do more with it??

Is no one going to talk about how Yusei was almost kidnapped by a shady organization to be brainwashed (with SCIENCE) and turned into a duel slave?

-          I’m not even going to talk about Carly.

Basically, I wish 5D’s was a lot more depressing than it actually was.
